Mira Gojak studied science, psychology and zoology before completing a fine arts degree. Her exploratory and intuitive practice is informed by these disciplines, enabling her to move freely between abstraction and figuration, gesture and structure. Gojak’s works often begin by extending a line drawing into space. Through a process of entanglement or accumulation, these lines materialise a place where the distinction between the internal and external is unclear. Here the idea of the void becomes a site – an active presence – where actions and their repetitions play out, in and through time. Suggesting thresholds, the repetition – almost as a ritual – embodies a tension between movement and stillness, and attempts to navigate the uncertain territory between possibility or stasis.
